This 2-week summer school will promote scholastic development through technical lectures given by field experts as well as professional development sessions aimed at early-career researchers in HEDS fields of study.

School Funding
The 2023 HEDS Summer School is funded by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the Center for Matter Under Extreme Conditions (CMEC), the United States Department of Energy (DOE), General Atomics and ASML. Student support is provided by the the NNSA, the DOE and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Generous support from General Atomics and ASML allow us to offer a welcome and closing reception.
About
The goal of the Summer School is to introduce new talent to the breadth of the U.S. High Energy Density Science (HEDS) community through lectures, engaging workshops, and discussion sessions with leaders in academia and the national laboratories. The objectives are to inspire young scientists to pursue graduate and professional careers in the fields of high energy density science, teach them fundamental HED science and critical skills, and grant them the opportunity to network with leading academic and national laboratory researchers. Our focus is to attract promising early-career students from across the country.
This will be the sixth time the Summer School is held in person at UC San Diego, and the third time its duration is extended to two weeks with added hands-on experiences. In 2021, the program was hosted by UC San Diego and held online.
School will consist of classroom-based teaching and tutorial workshops. Students will be encouraged to practice code modeling under the guidance of topic experts. The lecture format will cover HEDS fundamentals, multidisciplinary links, and state-of-the-art science.
Venue
The HEDS Summer School will take place in the Hojel Hall of the Americas Auditorium on the northwest side of the UC San Diego campus.
