Summary of the 44th Annual Anomalous Absorption Conference
June 2014
The 44th Annual Anomalous Absorption Conference was held at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO, from June 8 – 13, 2014. The co-chairs for the technical program were Prof. Farhat Beg (UCSD), Dr. Thomas Kwan (LANL), and Dr. Mark Schmitt (LANL).
The technical program consisted of 13 invited/plenary talks, 40 oral contributed talks, and 3 poster sessions with 42 presentations. The technical sessions covered topics in laser-plasma interaction, hydrodynamics and mix phenomena, ICF kinetic effects, radiation-hydrodynamics, ignition capsule designs, High energy density physics, warm dense matter and atomic physics, diagnostics, and ultra-short pulse laser applications.
The conference had 99 registered attendees and 32 guest companions, which was high compared to previous years. International participation included a delegation of French researchers in ICF and the laser project, LMJ. Participation from universities such as MIT, UT - Austin, UCLA, UCSD, national laboratories (Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and Sandia national Laboratory) and Laboratory for Laser Energetics was significant.
